George Waggner attended pharmacy college in Philadelphia and served in World War I before moving to Hollywood in 1920 to become an actor. He worked in a variety of jobs as an actor, songwriter and screenwriter before becoming a director of westerns in the late 1930s with "The Black Bandit" (1938).
